Small studio. Big opportunities.

Our graduate program is highly selective and intentionally small, therefore offering students the opportunity to work as part of a team running a large, diverse, and busy Choral Area.

Have experience, will hire.

For Master's students, we strongly prefer applicants to have at least 2–3 years of experience in the field. For DMA students, we strongly prefer applicants to have at least 3–5 years of experience paired with evidence of success and distinction.

Why these preferences? Because it's a competitive job market, we only accept those we believe we can help find work after graduation.

Bring your passport. You may need it.

The internationally acclaimed Moores School Concert Chorale typically travels internationally every other summer. Our university pays all expenses, and graduate students who sing with the ensemble may be eligible to travel. We make music and see the world.

Assistantships and scholarships are available.

Many DMA students attend tuition-free; MM students receive in-state tuition. All receive scholarship assistance and teaching assistantships.

Are you accepting applications for entry Fall 2024?

Yes, we anticipate having two openings in our program for Fall 2024, whether MM and/or DMA.

What does the audition consist of?

First, please be advised that interested students must apply to our program and then be invited to audition. All auditions take place in person.  You will need to be in place by 9:00 a.m. the morning of your audition, and you will be free to leave after 2:30 p.m. The audition consists of an interview with choral faculty, sight singing, piano, conducting skills tests, and leading a rehearsal with Concert Chorale, our top ensemble.  That rehearsal consists of 15 - 20 minutes of rehearsal on two pieces assigned to you and 10 minutes of rehearsal on a piece that you bring and that is unfamiliar to Chorale.  In most instances, there is time for you to enjoy an informal breakfast or lunch with our current graduate students, and the choral faculty is usually available for informal questions/answers as the day progresses.  You will also have an opportunity to chat with one of our graduate advisors.

What are the audition dates for Fall 2024 admission?

February 2, 9, 16, 19, 2024.
